Recruiting Tips, Strategies & Success Stories for Student Athletes
Your Game. Your Future. Our Mission.
Welcome to The Redzone Recruiting Edge Blog!
If you're a student-athlete dreaming of playing sports at the college level—or a parent trying to navigate the confusing world of athletic recruiting—you've come to the right place.
My name is Joe Von Gerichten, and I'm the founder of Redzone Recruiting Edge. For more than 20 years, I've worked in youth sports as a coach, mentor, and advocate for student-athletes. I've also spent over two decades helping businesses grow through digital marketing, automation, and strategic communication.
Over the years, I've seen one thing become crystal clear:
Most athletes and families are overwhelmed by the recruiting process.
They don't know where to start.
They don't know which coaches to contact.
They don't know what information coaches want to see.
They don't know how to build a recruiting plan.
And unfortunately, many talented athletes miss opportunities simply because they didn't have the right guidance at the right time.
That's exactly why I created The Redzone Recruiting Edge.
Why This Blog Exists
The recruiting landscape has changed dramatically.
College coaches now evaluate athletes through:
Highlight videos
Social media profiles
Recruiting questionnaires
Academic performance
Direct communication
Showcase events and camps
Character and leadership qualities
The days of simply waiting to be discovered are over.
Today's student-athletes must learn how to market themselves, communicate effectively with coaches, and take ownership of their recruiting journey.
This blog was created to help athletes and families do exactly that.

Why I Started Redzone Recruiting Edge
Like many parents, I experienced the recruiting process firsthand with my own daughter.
Years ago, I began building systems, checklists, communication templates, and recruiting strategies to help her navigate the journey.
What started as a personal blueprint eventually helped her earn an opportunity to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level.
Along the way, I realized something important:
The recruiting process shouldn't be reserved for families with unlimited budgets or insider connections.
Every student-athlete deserves access to quality recruiting education, tools, and resources.
That's the foundation of Redzone Recruiting Edge.
Our mission is to help athletes and families:
Avoid costly recruiting mistakes
Create professional recruiting materials
Develop a clear recruiting plan
Communicate effectively with coaches
Build momentum faster
Find schools that fit academically, athletically, and financially
The Reality of College Recruiting
One of the biggest misconceptions in recruiting is that talent alone is enough.
Talent matters.
But visibility matters too.
The athletes who create opportunities are often the athletes who:
Start early
Stay organized
Follow up consistently
Build relationships with coaches
Understand the recruiting process
Recruiting isn't about luck.
It's about preparation, persistence, and positioning yourself where opportunities can find you.
Start Where You Are
Whether you're:
A freshman just beginning your recruiting journey
A sophomore looking to gain momentum
A junior entering the critical recruiting years
A senior exploring final opportunities
A parent trying to make sense of it all
You're in the right place.
The most important step is simply getting started.
Don't wait while other athletes are building relationships, creating content, attending showcases, and contacting coaches.
Start today.
